AbstractIn order to implement the Convention of Biological Diversity for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, governments and conservation organizations have built up lots of biodiversity information (database) systems to support the decision-making on conservation and utilization from the basis of science. The development of information technology , especially the Internet , provides powerful tools and foundation for biodiversity information system and enables the information sharing globally. This paper briefly introduced the objective , content , status and nature of several famous information systems in biodiversity conservation and the representative in China , the Chinese Biodiversity Information System (CBIS) .
