A preliminary study on the populatiou size of Yangtze finless propoise in Poyang Lake, Jiangxi

Abstract: We estimated the population density and size of the Yangtze finless porpoise ( Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis) using line transect sampling in Poyang Lake , Jiangxi. The estimated density is 0. 1940 individual/ km2 and population size 388 , respectively. Feasibility , validity and other problems of line transect survey method in shallow fresh water lake were also discussed.
