Abstract: According to the English version of IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria (Version 3.1), the current Chinese translations of Vulnerable are not appropriate, which may mislead the public. We propose that the Vulnerable in this context means vulnerable to extinction, which means that a taxonomic unit already has a risk of extinction in the wild, but the risk is the lowest among the three threatened categories.
