Landscape conservation and Red Book for threatened landscapes

Most of  the landscapes on earth are products of mutual actions of natural processes and human culturalprocesses, and are stable types of long-term adaptation as well as evolutionary formation. They may betaken as model for coordinating the interrelationships between human beings and their environment, sothey are of  important scientific, cultural and pilot significances. Nevertheless, during the recent decades,along with the rapid growth of human population and use of new technologies, various landscapes of  the world are severely threatened. They are confronting deterioration, and some of  them are on the way toextinction, it is an urgent current task to conserve and rescue parts of the valuable landscapes. In 1991,within the CESP of  IUCN, established a Working Group on Landscape Conservation and worked out aLandscape Conservation Program. Two workshops on landscape conservation, being held separately inLtaly and England, were followed. A case study was also engaged in the Create of Greece. Now, the Red Books for Threatened Landscapes and Red Lists for Endangered Landscapes have been set about.
