The roots of Rubia yunnanensis Diels, known as"Xiao Hong Sheng",are used as antitumor drug in Yunnan. From methanol extract of the plant,a new glycocyclohexpeptide and a cyclohexapeptide (deoxybouvadiv)with high antitumor activity, together with ten arborane type triterpenoids including seven new ones, were isolated and their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral and chemical methods.

Cinnamomum burmannii (C. G.&Th. Nees) Bl. f. heyneanum (Nees) H.W.Li was originally a wild plant. The percent of the seeds germination is from 70 to 90. The main components in safrole keep the features of the parent when the seeds is used for propagation. It usually begins to blosoom at the age of four to six years planted. Branches and leaves on the plants at 3-4 years old are ready to be collect for aromatic oil distillation. The essential oil with the yield from 0.54 to 0.85 from the fresh leaves was obtained by steam distillation. The safrole content of main components in 97 to 99 is the highest safrole content among any othen Cinnamomum plants. Therefore, Cinnamomum burmannii f. heyneanum is a new perfumi plant which is worth to develop greatly.

The oil content of Scleropyrum wallichianum is 37.7%. Two acetylenic acids octadec-9-ynoic and 17-octadecen-9-ynoic acids were separated and identified by chemical modification in MS and 'H NMR, "C NMR. The other eleven fatty acids decanoic, lauric, palmitic, stearic, arachdic, behenic, hexadecenoic, oleic, eicosenoic, erucic, linoleic acids were determined.

From the roots of Desmos chinensis Lour (Annonaceae), a folk medicine for treatment of malaria in China, two flavonones were isolated by means of chemical and spectral data. These two compounds have been identifies as 4,7-dihydroxy-5-methoxy-6-mcthly-8-formyl-flavane and 5,7-dihyroxy-6,8-dimethyl- dihydroflavonce (demethoxymatteucinol), respectively.

A new bis-iridoidal glycoside. triplostoside A have been isolated from the roots of Triplostegia grandiflora Gagnep. (Dipsacaceae) along with the known iridoids, methyl loganin, loganic acid, sweroside and daucosterol. Its structure was elucidated on the basis of spectral da-ta and chemical evidence.

Fresh seed derived from a Mediterranean population of non-radiate Senecio vulgaris L. showed strong innate dormancy over a wide temperature range. In contrast, fresh seed of British S. vulgaris exhibited > 80 per cent germination at 20f .Dormancy in Mediterranean seed was overcome by: prolonged storage at 15°C and above; a short stratification treatment (two weeks at 4°C); prolonged leaching with water; treatment with gibberellic acid (GA3) alone (and with kinetin); and to a lesser extent, by wounding (i.e.removal of a small portion of the fruit and seed coat).

The juvenile embryos of Citrus reticulate Blanto after blossom 120 days were used as experiment material. The tufted shoots and all kinds ofembryoid can be induced on MT medium with BA 0.5mg / 1 or IBA 0.5mg/ 1 or BA 0.2mg/ 1 +2, 4-D 1.5mg/ 1. The multiplication and growth of globularity embryoid and seed-leaf embryoid were nice in medium with IBA 0.5-1.Omg/ 1, BA 0.5mg/ 1 was very satisfied with forming tufted shoots from seed-leaf embryo.

The bractlets in a inflorescence of Nicotiana tabacum, which were cultured in MS medium containing 2. Omg/1 6-BA, 0.2mg/l IBA directly formed vegetative buds, floral buds, or / and callus. The histological aspect of flower bud development in vitro were studied. It was found that the floral buds may originated from sub-epidemic layers. The physiological state of mother plant strongly effected the flowering of bractlets in inflorescence of N. tabacum in vitro. Only when the mother plants entered the stage of reproductive growth, the floral bud might form in vitro.

The present paper deals with the embryology of Litchi chinensis Sonn. The results are summarized as follows: The ovule is anatropous, with 2 integuments, obturator present, crassinucellar, archesporial functioning directly as the megaspore mother cell. The chalazal megaspore is functional. The development of the embryo sac conforms to the normal type. The formation of the microspores is of successive type. Mature pollen grain is 2-celled. The wet stigma surface has many papillar cells. The polar nuclei fuse before fertilization. Two sperms fuse with egg cell and secondary nucleus respectively 64 hours after pollination. Three antipodal cells are ephemeral. The endosperm is of nuclear type. The aril originates from the outer integument.

The anatomical types of the embryo of the bamboo fruits are variable and compli-cated. A lot of characters such as the anatomical types of the embryo, the angles between the radicle and scutel, between the plumule and scutel, the curve degree of the embryo, the exten-sion degree of the mesocotyl, and the size, pattern of the scutel, are more or less different among the bambotaxa.

There are 4 genera and 12 species with 2 forms of Alectoriaceae and Anziaceae, which have been reported recently by the authors from Lijiang Prefecture (Mt. Yu long. and ad-jacent regions) of Yunnan. As a result, Bryoria lactinea and Anzia colpota are new to China; Bryoria asiatica, B. confusca. B. smithii, £. variabilis; Oropogon asiaticus, 0. formosanus, 0. orientalis are new to Yunnan; Oropogon secalonicus and Anzia leucobatoides are endemic to China; Anzia leucobatoides f.hypomelaena is endemic to Yunnan, Sulcaria sulcata and Sulcaria sulcata f. vilpinoides are very common species in the area.

Anoectochilus roxburghii (Wall.) Lindle. is a perennial terrestrial orchid, which has rhizome. There are endodermises in its stem and root. The Casparian strip thickening occurs on the endodermis. The number of protoxylem groups in root is five to nine. In stem, 12-18 vascular bundles are arranged in 2-3 circles. Palisade tissue and spongy tissue can be distin-guished in the mesophyll. In the former, the chloroplasts are bigger and dark green; in the latter, the chloroplasts are smaller and pale green.

A revision is made to the species of Dipterocarps found in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. The specific epithet of Parashorea chinensis Wang Hsie is a basonym which is trans-ferred to the new combination Shorea chinensis (Wang Hsie) H. Zhu. While the Vatica xishuangbannaensis G.D.Tao et J. H. Zhang is a synonym of Vatica guangxiensis X. L. Mo. In addition, their relative affinities of these two taxa are discussed.

After delimiting the boundaries of Eastern Asiatic genera (mainly Sino-Himalayan & Sino-Japanese ones) in Yunnan, we concluded as follows: (1) In general, ' Tanaka Line' is a real one which is effectively delimited the eastern boundaries of Sino-Japanese genera & the western boundaries of Sino-Himalayan ones; (2) In comparision with the Sino-Himalayan genera, the Sino-Japanese ones are more strict to ' Tanaka Line'. Furthermore, we discussed the origin cause of ' Tanaka Line'& its significance in the study of florististic regionalization in Yunnan and the delimitation of species.

Melhania hamiltoniana Wall. is distributed in extremely limited dry and hot areas of Yuanjiang River (Red River) valley in Yunnan and Irrawaddy River valley in Burma. Its distribution pattern is of interest for further floristic and original study. The systematic posi-tion of the genus Melhania Forsk. has been debatable.
