Nine components of the essential oil of Rqbdosia rubescens were isolated by distillation and alumina column chromatography and identified by TLC, GLC, determination of physical constants and IR spectrum: a-pinene(1%), β-pinene (0. 16 % ), limonene (0.16%), 1, 8-cineole (0.33 %), P-cymene (0.16%), nonaldehyde (1.33%), decanal (1%), 0-elemene (20.3%) and palmitic acid (6.6%). Eight compounds (I-VIII)were isolated from the ether extract of the leaves by alumina or silica gel column chromatpgraphy.By means of UV, IR, MS, and NMR spectroscopy, preparation of derivatives and determination of physico-chemical constants, three of them, namely (I), (II)and(VI), were identified as oridonin, ponieidiri and a-amyrin respectively. According to the pharmacological and primary clinical findings, oridonin and ponicidin are two of the anti-neoplastic principles of this plaht.

    The Paris polyphylla Sm. var. yunnqnensig (Fr.) H-M. was collected near Kunming, Yunnan. Five compounds in dried rhizomes of this species were isolated. Three steroid glycosides were identified as diosgenin 3-0-α-L-rhamno- pyranosyl- (1→2) -[α-L-arabinofuranosyl- (1→4 ) ]- β-D-glucopyranoside (Ⅰ),diosgenin 3- 0 -α-L-rhamnopyranosyl- (1 →4 ) -α-L- rhamnopvranosyl-(1 →4 ) - [α-L-rhamnopyranosyl- (1→2 ) ]- β-D-glucopyranoside (Ⅱ) and diosgenin 3 -0 -α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1- 4 )-α-L-rhmnopyranosyl (1 →2 ) -β-D-glucopyranoside (dioscin) (Ⅲ). β-ecdysone (Ⅳ) 4nd cane sugar. were also identified from this plant.

In this paper a type of mossy forest that appears in the sclerophyllous evergreen broad-leaf forests is described. It was found by us in 1965 in the Sanyung mountain near Sanyingpan, the northern part of Luchuan district, Yunnan, occupying the altitude 2900-3100 m above sea level. The habitat that this vegetation occurs is a limestone mountain, where a mountainous cloudy belt is always around it, and below it in low altitude there is a canyon. Therefore, the habitat becomes so moist that has resulted in local climate and formed a modern environment for existence of this vegetation.

The genus Ceratostigma is closely related and in evolution paralleled to Dyerophytum. All of the three species Dyerophytum spread in differential parts of the Gondwana Land (E. Africa, S. Africa, Sokotra Islands and India). The genus Ceratostigma is discontinuly distributed in tropical E.Africa, E. Asia (from E.Himalaya in Xizang to N. and E. China, south into Thailand) with S. Xizang as the present distribution center. Probably both genera in origin and certainly evolved near the Tethys during the early Tertiary: Dyerophytum is restricted on the southern side of the Tethys, Ceratostigma has the origin centering in the region from Arabia to S. Xizang. Presence of Ceratostigma in E. AfricH indicate that the species were come from Asia before the break of Red Sea.

The genus Maytenus was established in 1782 by Molina and Gymnosporia in 1834 by Wight & Arn. There are 325 species of both have been recorded in the whole world (Airy-Shaw, 1973) and 8 species from China (One is Maytenus, seven are Gymnosporia) .In recent years, some of new species were discovered in China. Up to now, 23 native species and there is also a variety have been verified.
