Abstract: Nitrogen-fixing woody legumes in the natural forests of Dinghushan were investigated. Forty one species of woodylegumes, including 15 species of trees, 6 species of shrubs and 20 species of woody lianas, were found in the natu-ral forests of Dinghushan. Of the 41 species reported from this survey and the references[1,2,3,4,5], 26 species in-cluding 11 species of trees, 5 species of shrubs and 10 species of woody lianas produced nodules and fixed nitrogen:6 species including 2 species of trees, 1 species of shrub and 3 species of woody lianas did not nodulate: 9 speciesincluding 2 species of trees and 7 species of woody lianas were neither surveyed nor reported on their nodulatingand nitrogen-fixing capabilities.

The results obtained from this study are of very significance for the conservation, management and utilization ofthe nitrogen-fixing woody legume resources in Dinghushan.
